Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu dej (now Onesti(born November 12, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, now One Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast in history to receive a score of a perfect of 10 during the Olympic event. Bela Karalyi was introduced to Comaneci at the age of six. She later became the gymnastics coach of Romania. Comaneci competed for the first time at the junior national championships, finishing 13th. After that she became champion. Her first competition in the international arena was in 1972, a pre-Olympic junior competition for communist-bloc nations she won three gold medals In 1973 and 1974, she was the junior all-around champion. She defeated the Russian Lyudmila Torishcheva. She was a five-time European champion, at her first international senior competition in the year 1975. At this competition, she was awarded four golds and one silver. She won the American Cup at the New York City Olympic Games. She also became the first woman to ever dismount parallel bars and to use an inverse salto that doubled backward. She began her career in the entertainment industry during her teenage years, when she appeared in the figure skating duo of the cousin Nina Wayne for the travelling entertainment program Ice Capades. Carol Marie Wayne is a American citizen who was born on September 6 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. Carol first began her acting career when she was in her teens. As a young girl she started her career as the figure skater alongside Nina Wayne in the travelling entertainment show Ice Capades. They featured staged ice skating spectacles.
