Laura Linney, best known for playing strong, yet vulnerable characters, is one of the most acclaimed American actors of today. Her father was a celebrated playwright, but Linney was raised as an all-only child by her single-mother who was a nurse. Through the summer months when she was with her father Linney was able to develop a passion for theatre. Her first stage experience was first through Brown University then at Juilliard School. Beginning her career at the Broadway shortly after her graduation, she appeared in films within two years. She also appeared on TV in the year after. Innumerable appearances in movies, television shows and stage productions since then. There were many awards she received during her professional career, such as the four Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. Despite her numerous accolades, she is still a lover of theatre and has appeared on both screen and stage.
